WHAT'S NEW

CONGRATULATIONS

The Sheboygan Rotary club selected Gerry Plehn for their annual award to celebrate her continued community leadership and volunteer roles over the past thirty years.

Gerry has been the driving force in developing, managing, evaluating and promoting the Rotary Club’s Making Spirits Bright event and served as president of the event’s board of directors from 2013 to August 2022. She continues to provide energy and passion driven leadership to the Making Spirits Bright event every day of the year, currently in the eleventh year.
She was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she co-chaired successful capital campaigns in 1995 and 1998. She is currently a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls where she has recruited additional volunteers for Making Spirits Bright. A graduate of Sheboygan Chamber Leadership Institute, she served on the planning committee for eight years.

Gerry is a previous member of Sheboygan County Home Builders, past secretary of the board and served on and chaired various committees.
She helped organize a “Parents Against Drugs” program at Sheboygan South High School. This led to Gerry being invited to join a Sheboygan
Rotary Club in 1994 and she’s been an active member for over 28 years serving as President, Lobster Boil co-chairman and RI Foundation
Committee Chair 2019 – Present. In 2008, she was awarded the Early Bird Rotarian of the Year Award.

YOU NAMED THE EVENT BEST OF SHEBOYGAN COUNTY

In the 2022 annual community choice awards compiled by “The Sheboygan Press,” Making Spirits Bright was named the best community/charity event.

We receive inspiring comments on social media, volunteers hear them as visitors exit the park, and people travel to attend this show as it’s “one of the best things we do during the holidays.”

Earning this award is the culmination of lots of hard work that results in helping those in our community while also bringing holiday joy.

DAMAGES

Summer Storm Damages Evergreen Park

The June 2022 storm that ripped through our area had straight line winds measuring near 100 mph resulting in a hard-hit north side of Sheboygan with downed trees and other damage. While many homes and businesses were affected, Evergreen Park was one of the hardest hit.
Initially, city workers were challenged with removing trees from city streets. This meant it was necessary to close the park to vehicular traffic until crews could attend to the many trees that obstructed the road through the park. Some of this damage affected our electrical outlets as well as created the need to redesign a couple areas where trees are utilized for the set up of displays. With the assistance of Lake Park Electric, and our dedicated production volunteers, we have been able to retain the integrity of the event.
